The Corail Noir hotel and its Aqua Diving center, in partnership with the Regeneration Koraï association and with the support of the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF), are leading an ambitious coral reef restoration project around the island of Nosy Sakatia (Madagascar).
Coral reefs are the lungs of our oceans, playing a crucial role in marine biodiversity and climate regulation.
They capture and store CO₂, protecting coasts from erosion.
They are a vital food source for local communities, especially in Madagascar.
They support cultural and tourism activities such as snorkeling and scuba diving.
Yet, these ecosystems face increasing threats from climate change, sedimentation, boat anchoring, and destructive fishing practices.
Following an in-depth scientific study, we identified:
Coral species most resistant to environmental stress.
The most suitable areas for installing metal structures to host coral cuttings.
We work closely with local communities – fishermen, schools, and children – to raise awareness about protecting these fragile ecosystems.
In 2025, we will install 30 structures across 2 sites, each hosting 42 carefully selected coral cuttings.
Regular monitoring will assess reef health and guide the installation of additional structures in 2026.
As part of our project, any beneficiary, partner, or citizen may submit feedback, questions, complaints, or concerns related to project activities via email at projetsakatia.koraicorail@gmail.com.
We commit to forwarding them to the CEPF and RIT offices and responding within 15 days.
If the response is not satisfactory, the complainant may submit their grievance in writing to the IUCN NL Complaint Committee: mail@iucn.nl; (+31 (0)20 626 1732).
If still unsatisfied, the grievance may be submitted directly to CEPF (+1-866-294-8674).
As a last resort, it may be addressed to the AFD complaint mechanism: réclamation@afd.fr and the Green Climate Fund: irm@gcfund.org.
