We’re excited to share an initiative that’s very close to our hearts here at Corail Noir Hotel.
The way drinking water is managed in Madagascar is pretty complex, and it has a big impact on the environment. It’s true that the tourism industry uses a lot of plastic, and most of it isn’t treated or recycled. The damage to the environment is pretty significant.
We’ve decided to tackle this challenge head-on and take another step towards a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly future by saying “no” to plastic bottles. We’re concerned about our impact on the environment, so this step is just following the consequence.
Our solution to replace plastic bottles is with a water filtration system that uses technology developed by GAIA Madagascar. These installations provide our customers with fresh, clean, and pure water, while eliminating the need for plastic bottles.
Here’s how it all works:
Our filtration system has three levels.
pre-filtration: the first particle filter retains particles and suspended matter in the water
UV debacterialization: this second stage disinfects the water against viruses and bacteria. The water is thus filtered, deodorized and debacterialized.
Pure water via reverse osmosis: reverse osmosis is recognized as one of the best technologies available for producing top-quality drinking water. It’s also the same method used by many bottled water companies to produce healthy, tasty water. Reverse osmosis not only eliminates unpleasant odours and tastes, but also retains the last remaining chemical elements in the water, such as nitrates and other microscopic residues.

You’ll find them in the hotel’s two bars. Guests are welcome to help themselves to bottles of fresh filtered water.
