The management of drinking water in Madagascar is a complex issue that has repercussions for the environment. The tourism industry generates massive use of plastics, which are rarely or never treated or recycled. The damage to the environment is considerable.
We have decided to rise to this challenge and take another step towards a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly future by saying ‘NO’ to plastic bottles. Concerned about our environment and our ecological impact, we have decided to say “NO” to plastic bottles.
Our solution
To replace plastic bottles, we installed a water filtration system using technology developed by the company GAIA Madagascar. These installations offer fresh, clean and pure water to our guests, while eliminating the need for plastic bottles. Here’s how it works:
Advanced Filtration Technology: 3 levels of filtration.
1. pre-filtration: the first particle filter removes particles and suspended matter from the water.
2. UV disinfection: this second stage disinfects the water against viruses and bacteria. The water is filtered, deodorised and de-bacterialised.
3. *Pure water via reverse osmosis*: reverse osmosis is recognised as one of the best technologies available for producing top-quality drinking water. It’s also the same method used by many bottled water companies to produce healthy, tasty water. Reverse osmosis not only eliminates unpleasant odours and any bad taste in the water, but also retains the last chemical elements present in the water, such as nitrates and other microscopic residues.
Accessibility: These are located in the hotel’s two bars. You can help yourself to bottles of fresh filtered water.
